Welding Training & Certification™: Ford Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding (WCA05)

F-150 Aluminum Repair Provider I-Car

Aluminum repair is different, not difficult. This in-shop training course teaches proper welding techniques through theory instruction, hands-on practice and coaching, and culminates in I-CAR®’s industry-recognized Welding Certification test.

The instructor-led, hands-on training covers the distinctive process and all aspects of welds used in repairing aluminum vehicle structures. Participants set up and tune a welding machine, address safety issues, prepare metal surfaces, learn and perform proper welding techniques, and identify and correct weld defects. Hands-on practice welds include GMA (MIG) plug, fillet and butt joint with backing welds. Welds are practiced in both vertical and overhead positions. Participants also perform the required visual inspections and destructive tests for each type of welded joint.

The F-150 Aluminum Repair Provider training program concludes with the Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding Certification Test, evaluating the technician’s ability to perform all three welds in both the vertical position and overhead position. For the technician to earn the Certification from I-CAR, all six welds must pass both visual inspection and destructive tests.
